A couple of days ago, the First Minister of Scotland argued that she wants an independent country. She vowed to fight to hold a referendum, so that her country will remain in the European Union.
Now, it looks like Nicola Sturgeon has changed her mind. After a few polls that revealed that the Scottish people want to remain in the United Kingdom, Sturgeon began to back up. She is almost close to giving in and supporting Brexit.
The First Minister cannot accept Brexit as she feels it is so wrong for her people, but the citizens do not agree with her on this one. They might not wish the same independence Sturgeon wants. She might have to accept their wishes and be the voice they want.
According to this recent poll, about 53% of the Scottish citizens want to remain in the EU. Approximatively 46% do not want a referendum to be held, though.
When it comes to the independence Sturgeon dreams about, only 25% agree with her and think that they should get an independence. On the other hand, 58% think that the country won’t do well on its own.
An organization based in Scotland thinks that more and more citizens began to be skeptic about the European Union. Some even think that leaving the union for good would be a good idea.
If Nicola Sturgeon will still want to go on with this referendum, she will have to fight Theresa May, who does not agree with this. The UK Government and the Prime Minister are the ones that decide the future of Scotland.
