The French people rejects Brigitte Macron’s “right” to receive funds as First Lady

More than 150.000 people have signed the online petition in which they refuse to grant the First Lady status to President Emmanuel Macron’s wife, writes AFP.

The petition “against the status of First Lady for Brigitte Macron” was launched two weeks ago on the Internet and gathered more than 150.000 signatures on Sunday.

“There is no reason of why Brigitte Macron should get a budget from the public funds”, says Thierry Paul Valette, a petitioner who presents himself as a “painter and writer”.

“Brigitte Macron currently has a team of two or three collaborators, as well as two secretaries and two security guards, and that is enough” included the comment that highlights the context of “savings” the government wants to achieve.

During the presidential campaign, Emmanuel Macron repeatedly has stated that his wife would have a very “public role” if he will be elected in Elysee, but added that her budget will not be paid out of taxpayers’ money.

The issue regarding the First Lady’s status appeared last week at the National Assembly.
