Jean-Claude Juncker’s 25.000 euros private jet jaunt

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker is being accused of spending 25.000 euros from the budget of the European institution to rent a private jet from Brussels to Rome, according to a series of revelations made by a group of Spanish activists from Access Info.

Also, according to BBC News, the European commissioners spent almost half a million euros on private planes and accommodation only between January and February 2016.

The European Commission has argued that these costs are in line with EU rules and all of the expenses are being verified annually by the European Parliament.

These expenses include renting a private aircraft for Jean-Claude Juncker’s delegation of nine to fly from Brussels to Rome, where the EC President attended a meeting with Italy’s former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

A spokesman explained that the private aircraft was rented because there none of the commercial flights from that time matched with the president’s busy agenda.

Another strange detail that drew the attention of the Spanish organization was the “fee” of 2.927 euros for each person who took the private flight from Brussels to Rome.

Mina Andreeva argued that flying a private aircraft involves a lot of work because commissioners need to read documents and mark important points.

“I think you will be disappointed regarding the flying experience” Andreeva has said.
