Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council, said he was worried that his native country, Poland, might be heading for a divorce from the European Union, writes The Associated Press.

Former Polish Prime Minister made this statement on Thursday, in a context in which the Law and Justice Party (PiS, Conservative, and Populist), a Eurosceptic coalition, is in conflict with the Union because the global organization has attempted to modify its judiciary system.

Brussels labeled these PiS efforts as undemocratic

The Warsaw government has defied the Union in both cases and refuses to comply with a ruling by the European Court of Justice (CJEU) ruling the cessation of cuts in the Bialowieza forest.

“It seems to me that it is a prelude to an announcement that Poland does not need the European Union. I’m afraid we are closer than ever before, “Tusk told the press.

He made these statements after being heard by prosecutors in Warsaw in an investigation into the collapse of the Polish presidential aircraft in 2010 in Russia near Smolensk, resulting in the death of Lech Kaczynski and the majority of the Polish elite.
