Donald Trump ”suggested” to Mexican state leader Enrique Pena Nieto not to publicly oppose to his plan of forcing Mexico to pay for the wall that he has promised throughout his campaign.

The information appeared on Thursday, according to transcripts of phone calls revealing Trump’s efforts to influence foreign leaders during the early days of his term, reports Reuters.

The Washington Post (WP) has published a series of transcripts of his phone conversation with the Mexican President and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull just days after the Republican billionaire was invested as president on January 20th.

Trump contradicted with Turnbull on the phone on the refugee issue eight days after taking office. He told him this is “unpleasant”.

“If you say that Mexico will not pay for the wall then I do not want to meet with you guys, because I cannot accept that,” Trump told Pena Nieto in a telephone conversation on January 27.

“You cannot say that to the press,” Trump told Pena Nieto several times.

The wall promised by Trump, aimed at preventing illegal immigration into the United States, is a matter of dispute between Mexico City and Washington.

Before the conversation, Pena Nieto canceled a meeting with Trump in the United States.

The head of the Mexican state has repeatedly announced that his country refuses to pay this wall. The two met later and discussed at the G20 summit in Germany last month.

The White House said the US government would initially pay the wall to launch the project, and the Mexicans would reimburse the works.

Trump said he was both “politically tied” because of his campaign promise to build the wall and put Mexico on the bill.

“I have to make Mexico pay the wall, I have to. We talked about it for two years, “Trump said.
