The Apple Watch 2 is expected to hit stores in the coming weeks alongside the new update for the iPhone. Apple, looking to build on the success of the original Apple Watch, has added some new features that they believe will convince consumers that the new smartwatch is the best on the market.

Sensors

The Apple Watch 2 comes equipped with a barometer sensor. A standard feature in most smartphones that help in measuring altitudes. A feature primarily used for health-tracking. This addition is essential for Apple, considering the fact that the Californian Company featured health-tracking heavily in its original marketing push for the Apple Watch. Most of which were abandoned due to technical reasons.

Barometer sensors, blood pressure, and oxygen level are expected features of the Apple Watch 2. In a bid to build on the health-tracking systems they had to abandon in the original apple watch.

GPS

The second smartwatch in the Apple series also comes equipped with a GPS system, allowing the Apple Watch 2 to access location data, which means that consumers won’t need to rely on their attendant iPhones anymore to access a location as in the original Apple Watch.

Waterproof/Battery

The Apple Watch 2 is waterproof, meaning that consumers can swim while wearing the smartwatch. A new larger cell battery, as well as, software optimizations and a new S2 chipset (manufactured by TSMC,) with built-in power-saving functionality have been added to the new smartwatch to improve battery life.

Display

The watch is rumored to use a One Glass Solution display, which means that one of the layers of glass utilized in the original Apple Watch has been replaced with a thinner material. This helps to free up space within the internal machinations of the smartwatch, and also reduce the weight and make the Apple Watch 2 sleeker than the original apple watch.

Network Connectivity

The most substantial upgrade from the original Apple Watch is the ability of the Apple Watch 2 to connect to a cellular network without an attendant iPhone. However, reports from Bloomberg suggests that Apple will delay including a 3G / 4G chipset, meaning it may not be a part of the second-generation Apple Watch.
