President Islam Karimov Suffered a Stroke

Islam Karimov is in intensive care, after suffering a brain hemorrhage on Saturday morning.

The announcement was made by his younger daughter Lola.

“He was hospitalized in intensive care after suffering a brain hemorrhage on Saturday morning. He is stable now.”, wrote Lola Karimova-Tilliaieva on Instagram.

Without offering any further details, the Uzbek government announced on Sunday that the state leader was hospitalized.

This is actually very bizarre considering Uzbek officials are not allowed to make any statements regarding their leader’s fragile health whatsoever.

“For now, is too soon for prognostics regarding his condition”, added Lola.

In order to rule the Soviet Republic, Karimov became the Soviet Party’s First Secretary in 1989. A year later, he became President of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic. It’s been 25 years since Karimov is ruling the central Asian nation.

Following his recent health problems, prime-minister Shavkat Mirzioiev and vice-minister Rustam Azimov are the leading candidates in order to replace Mr. Karimov.

For many years, his eldest daughter Gulnara Karimova was one of his personal advisers. Gulnara fell into disgrace amid a massive corruption scandal.

In 2015, an investigation by The Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project reported that Karimova had taken over $1 billion US in bribes from Scandinavian and Russian telecoms companies wanting in on the Uzbek market. She is now under house arrest.

Karimov’s younger daughter Lola preferred to keep a low profile. Lola is an Uzbek diplomat and philanthropist living in Paris with her husband. In 2013, Lola stated that she didn’t spoke to Gulnara for more than 12 years.
