The famous Mexican singer Juan Gabriel died of a heart attack at the age of 66, days after performing for more than 17,000 people in a concert.

His father died when he was only two years old and his mother abandoned him in an orphanage. At 19 he arrives in Mexico City and gets a contract for ‘No Tengo Diners’, his first success. The singer and songwriter soon become a star of Latin music. He received a music star in the south part, area 7000 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He was sometimes linked to being the Mexican Elvis Presley, with hits like Amor Eterno which he performed in glittering mariachi outfits.

“His music was his legacy for the world,” Pena Nieto, the Mexican President, wrote on Twitter. “He left us too soon,” he added.

Plaza Garibaldi from Mexico City was the place where a part of his fans gathered to bring him the last tribute by laying down flowers and lighting up candles.

One man said he is a truly sad loss for the Mexican people, for he was one of the musical icons with a big relevancy for the country because his music was identified a lot with the Mexican people. Another fan said he was too young to go.

Although he spent time in prison for robbery as a teenager and accused of not paying his taxes, his mistakes were forgotten by the music he offered.
