Powerful Bomb Explosion at the Brussels Institute of Criminology

The exploded Sunday night, in the Brussels Institute of Criminology’s parking lot. According to the Belgian authorities, there were no victims.


The bizarre incident took place at about 3am local time. A vehicle entered the parking lot, literally smashing three barriers while one of the attackers exploded the bomb.


Although the authorities are still trying to get ahead of the awkward scenario, it is believed that the mobsters were planning to destroy the laboratories.


According to BBC, the Brussels Institute of Criminology is based in Neder-Over-Hembeek, a suburb north of Brussels.


The research institute is linked to the Belgian ministry of justice and carries out forensic investigations in criminal cases.


Apparently, the authors tried to enter the building before the authorities were alerted. Due to the powerful explosion, an area caught fire and more than 20 firemen rushed to the scene.


Even though there were no victims reported, the material damages are significant.


The suburb residents woke up in the middle of the night after hearing a massive explosion and police sirens. Some of them noticed a smoke cloud.


The terror alert in Belgium remains at three. The authorities tightened the security measures after the airport and city metro incidents killed 32 people.


The attacks were claimed by the Islamic State.


The Belgian Interior Minister stated that threat alerts regarding Belgium are at its highest level.


Armies of soldiers and police officers were deployed to the streets and in vulnerable areas such as airports, ports, and borders.
