Cowboys" Dak Prescott Ready To Take Over In Tony Romo"s Stead

As aging Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo suffers from yet another injury, the Cowboys are uniquely equipped to weather the storm. While they have struggled to find a skilled backup in recent years, turning to retreads like Matt Cassel and Brandon Weeden in the process, they finally have a young budding star in Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott.

The Cowboys lucked into this scenario when Kellen Moore, the original QB2, went down with an ankle injury and the team was unable to sign Josh McCown or Nick Foles. Prescott has been the talk of the preseason, showing strong field vision, uncanny accuracy and veteran poise in the face of the pass rush.

His transition into de facto starter has been aided greatly by a strong offensive line, the presence of a solid running game and Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant. The Cowboys coaching staff has placed the young man in a position to succeed and they are reaping the benefits of their investment in the offensive line.

While the Cowboys have typically been left in shambles when Romo missed time in seasons past, losing 13 of their 14 contests when he was not under center, this season promises to be much different and the team is quietly confident that Prescott can capably hold the fort while Romo is on the mend.

The Cowboys’ embarrassment of riches on the offensive side of the ball certainly makes Prescott’s job all the more simple. He is able to play complementary football, take what the defense gives him and he will never be forced to win a game by himself. Thanks to the immediate strides that their young quarterback has taken, the Cowboys can now reasonably expect to remain in the NFC East hunt in Romo’s absence.
