The most powerful man in the world will have a one-on-one meeting at the G20 summit with his Turkish counterpart.

This is Barack and Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s first encounter since the failed coup attempt on July 15.

According to Wall Street Journal, the meeting will take place in Hangzhou on Sunday.

“President Barack Obama wants to discuss the recent failed coup in Turkey, about the campaign against terrorist organization ISIS, the efforts of establishing peace in Syria and also about the refugee’s crisis”, declared the U.S. Advisor for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes.

Also, during the G20 summit, Barack Obama wants to discuss with Chinese president Xi Jinping about the bilateral cooperation between their countries.

Russian state leader Vladimir Putin announced his attendance at the summit. Although they are not going to have a private meeting, Putin and Obama will talk about the massive crisis in Syria and Ukraine.

Obama’s meeting is the latest in a string of high-level US officials’ outreach to Turkish leaders. Last week, Vice President Joe Biden visited Turkey personally.

Tensions between Turkey and the US escalated significantly following the failed coup in July.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan insists that U.S should extradite Fethullah Gulen because allegedly he is the alleged mastermind of the failed coup attempt.

The U.S government declared they have no interest in protecting Gulen whatsoever. They will cooperate with the Turkish authorities as long as they follow all the legal standard requirements.
