Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date was put on screen and came out this Friday.

The movie, “Southside with You” was not as the public would expect and ranked 14 in the charts. It tells the story of Obama and his wife’s first date, back in 1989 in Chicago.

With $3 million revenues in its first weekend, the movie was displayed in 813 theatres across the United States, with a lot of positive reviews, but not very loved by the public, being under the expectations of many of them.

Although it was all about them, the presidential couple did not make any references about the movie at all.

Starring Tika Sumpter as Michelle Obama and Parkers Sawyer as Barack Obama, the movie had as an executive producer the one and only John Lenon.

The action of the movie goes around the presidential couple’s first date, which ended up with a kiss on a bench, after getting an ice-cream.

‘We had sell-outs in many markets and the movie is playing to both an African-American audience and to arthouse audiences. The reviews have been better than anything we saw at Sundance and it will continue to play throughout the fall,’ said Howard Cohen, Roadside co-president.

At the Sundance Film Festival the movie ranked fourth out of a number of 17 movies, being behind ‘Love&Friendship’, ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ and ‘Swiss Army Man’.

The well-known newspaper, The New York Times, declared that the movie was ‘sweet, slight and thuddingly sincere’.
