Calaveras County Has Emergency Evacuations Due To Wildfire

Another US city is in turmoil. This time it’s Calaveras County California that is experiencing a mass evacuation. Crews currently are battling a raging and fast-moving 450-acre fire that is tearing through the area’s wildlife. It is threatening many homes in the area that are being advised to leave immediately. As of this time, officials report that the blaze is only 5%-contained.

The Willow Valley subdivision in Calaveras is being targeted for evacuation. This subdivision is within the Mountain Ranch area. Residents have received strong evacuation warnings so far that extend from Calaveritas Road to Old Gulch Road and to Rocky Road. The area is in the direct line of the wildfire that is rushing through the higher areas. Officials are working to contain the fire, but efforts have not gotten a strong enough hold yet to deem the area safe.

San Andreas Town Hall has opened an emergency evacuation center where people and small domesticated animals can find shelter. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office released the information for reaching to center quickly to all residents who leave their homes.

So far over 1,100 customers are experiencing a power outage due to the disastrous fire raging through. PG&E reports that it cannot restore power, or even begin working on it until the fire is contained. The fire was initially reported after 1pm on Sunday near the Willow Creek Road and Mountain Ranch Road areas, just east of San Andreas. It was reported to officials who immediately began efforts to contain the fire.

Although it is raging and moving quickly, officials warn that the efforts to contain it are relatively early and likely will continue well into the night. There will likely be more developments early morning that hopefully will put people back into their homes safely.
