The US President, Donald Trump, clearly hinted that he assumes Russia will restore Crimea to Ukraine.
Also, he targets Russia to reduce the violence in the east of the country, said an accredited testimony issued by the White House on Tuesday evening.
Russia annexed the Ukrainian peninsula Crimea in March 2014 after a poll that was unrecognized by the international community.
This is why the EU and the US have imposed sanctions against it.
Also, the punishments have been expanded due to the support of Moscow rebel separatists in the eastern Ukrainian territory.
Moscow’s reaction came quickly after the press release.
Russia will not return Crimea to Ukraine.
“We are not giving back our territories. Crimea is an area that belongs to the Russian Federation”, declared a Russian spokesman.
Furthermore, Kremlin does not intend to discuss its areal integrity with its external partners.
At the same time, Crimea’s status was not discussed during the telephone dialogue between Putin and Trump, which took place in late January.
The Russian parliament’s lower house responded in turn:
‘Crimea is part of Russia and its alienation won’t be part of any discussion. This may affect the territorial integrity of Russia’.
Also, the Russian officials insisted that any alienation of their territory would be to the visible detriment of the country.
Meanwhile, the Russian lawmakers are expecting statements regarding Crimea directly from Donald Trump.
Since the beginning of Trump’s electoral program, the new American President of the US supported the “normalization of relations with Russia, with China, the cessation of military actions and the fight against terrorism.”
