Giant 3,000-year-old statue of Ramses II, found in Cairo

Researchers just made a huge finding in Cairo. They found out a giant carving of Ramses II, which is believed to be from 3000 ago.

The find took place at the beginning of the week. The ones that stumbled upon it think that this must be one of the most significant discoveries in history.

This immense statue was found near the temple of the ancient ruler, in a slum. It measures about eight meters and at the moment, it is really believed that it depicts the ruler of Egypt.

According to the minister of Antiquities, they found the bust and about half of the skull of the statue. Also, they found his crown and only one ear and a portion of one of his eyes were intact. A numerous team was needed to pull the massive statue out of the water.

Ramses II or The Great reigned from 1279 to 1213. He is one of the most popular leaders of the ancient empire. During his reign, the country reached a peak.

Ramses expanded the size of his empire and managed to remain in history as one of the greatest rulers that Egypt had. The pharaoh also had a thing for statues and ordered to have many made.

Along the statue of Ramses, another one was found. This one depicts Seti II ans is much smaller, only eighty centimeters.

The archaeologists that found the magnificent statue come from different countries. For example, scientists from the University of Leipzig were involved.
