Sistine Chapel in the Vatican is considered one of the most important works of art of all times.

Now, it has been digitized for preservation.

Accomplished by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, the Sistine Chapel is considered by many critics as the most important work of art in the world.

The ceiling is painted entirely by Michelangelo. The side walls contain frescoes by Botticelli, Perugino, Ghirlandaio and Roselli Domenico.

After about 500 years, the works are still very well preserved, but they should not be ignored.

For this reason, a team of experts has decided to digitize all the works in the Sistine Chapel using a significant number of high-quality DSLRs.

This is not the first project of its kind passing by the chapel.

The last similar photographic documentation was conducted over 14 years between 1980 and 1994, according to Reuters.

Thus, if something happens to any corner of Michelangelo’s work, some high-resolution images can be used as inspiration for restorers.

The digitization project that was recently completed was done in 65 nights of work over a period of 5 years.

In total, 270,000 images were immortalized.

In the future, it will allow us to know the exact state of each centimeter of the chapel as it is today.

The former director of the Vatican Museums was very excited about this initiative.

The volume will include reproductions on a scale of 1: 1, using the digital images immortalized in the project.

This book will be available in a limited edition of 1999 copies with a price of 12,000 euros.
