The popular fast food chain that specialized in fried chicken came up with the most bizarre method to promote their new specialty.

On Monday, first customers who ordered the new Extra Crispy specialty online also received the KFC chicken scented sunscreen.

The reporters from Several Associated Press who tested the sunscreen revealed the smell did not immediately bring to mind chicken, however.

The Kentucky Fried Chicken lotion has an SPF 30 and was available on their website only for a few hours.

We are not sure why KFC decided to launch a skincare product in order to promote their specialties but they certainly sparked the customer’s interest. The 3,000 bottles vanished from the website in no time.

“Harmful ultraviolet rays bounce off your skin while the lovely fragrance rays penetrate it to give you a healthy chicken aroma.”, said on their website.

The Louisville-based company announced their giveaway on Twitter.

KFC was founded by Harland Sanders in 1940 in Corbin Kentucky.

Colonel Sanders came up with the yummy “Original Recipe” of 11 herbs and spices in July 1940. Although he never revealed the recipe, the first “Kentucky Fried Chicken” franchise opened in Utah in 1952 and became an instant success.

Kentucky Fried Chicken is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, alongside Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.

Before his death, Colonel Sanders served as a spokesman for the fast-food chain and traveled all around the world in order to promote his popular recipe. KFC’s iconic figure died in 1980 at the age of 90.
