The Chicago Police is interviewing one potential witness that killed four people already, from which three of them were children, and three others with serious injuries.
It was 1:36 am on Tuesday morning when the fire started, in a three-story apartment building situated in South Essex and the firefighters only managed to put it out at 4:39 am.
The fire was on the second and on the third floor, making it impossible for the firefighters to go up the stairs.
A three-month-old baby was taken urgently to the hospital but unfortunately pronounced dead later on, while another two children, aged 4 and 6 and a man was found dead after the fire was extinguished.
They were all found on the same floor, the children in the same apartment while the man in a different one, the fire official declared.
The official also described the fire of being ‘of suspicious nature’.
A 48-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after, as the eye-witness say, he jumped out of the third floor of the building with a child in his arms. Two other people were taken to the hospital, one in not such a bad condition while the other was a little more injured.
There is a possibility that the building was not really safe in the first place after a porch was not in the right condition, being defective and some parts of the stairs were in a desperate need of reparation.
Currently, investigations are taking place and soon enough the reason behind the fire will be revealed by the investigators.
