Only a year ago, Bentley broke the barriers of tradition with its first SUV: Bentayga.

After this premiere, another exotic manufacturer owned by the Volkswagen Group is preparing to do the exact same thing.

We are talking about Lamborghini who is set to launch its first SUV in 2018.

It is true that the Italians played with this segment in the past but they never experienced a real hybrid drive train.

In addition to the decision to give us an eminently sporty SUV, Lamborghini also promises its electrification.

Maurizio Reggiani, head of Lamborghini R & D, has already confirmed that the hybrid system is in the developing stage.

The official claims that the Lamborghini Urus will be the only model from the range that will benefit from a hybrid, while the Huracan Aventador will remain faithful to the V12 and V10 units.

In addition to the hybrid architecture, Urus requires the adoption of a V8 bi-turbo, 4.0-liter, again a first in the history of a manufacturer.

This solution is favored by engineers mostly because it guarantees more torque, which is essential for an SUV.

In an interview with Autocar, Reggiani said the design of the Lamborghini Urus will be specific and the interior and exterior appearance will be much improved compared to the concept of the same name, launched four years ago.

Engineers will also focus on aerodynamics and maneuverability, given that the Urus wants to become the sportiest SUV in the world, a title currently owned by the colleagues from Bentley and Porsche.

Lamborghini Urus would go into production in early 2018 but it is unclear whether it will make its debut alongside the hybrid engine or it will debut later.
