Despite the fact thousands of police officers were deployed in the most crowded intersections of New York, the mayor of the American metropolis stated that the city will be packed with sandbags to stop future attacks like the one committed this month at the Christmas Fair in Berlin.

The mayor of London also adopted increased security measures – the metro will be flooded with armed police officers and the city will become surrounded by concrete barriers meant to protect the places where the revelers gather for the New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s Eve in Times Square, perhaps the most famous party in the world is always a grand spectacle, which requires a preparation down to the smallest detail.

Thursday rehearsals were held, including the ubiquitous “confetti test”.

The organizers wanted to ensure that millions of colored papers will float gracefully, regardless of the not-so-friendly weather conditions.

However, the rehearsal from 2016 proved it – a rainy day in New York is not exactly an obstacle for the traditional confetti “rain”.

“There is no credible threat”, said the mayor of New York, even if it was a little tangled in formulations.

“But better safe than bad”, added the official.

The area will be full of cops and access roads will be blocked with garbage trucks loaded with sandbags. The same protective measure was applied at the Thanksgiving parade.

The new set of security measures is meant to prevent future attacks or trucks driven deliberately into the crowd – as happened in the summer in Nice and at the Christmas Fair this month in Berlin.
