At the end of 2016, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad won in Aleppo that the greatest victory since the Syrian Civil War started in 2011, but the Syrian crisis is far from being resolved and the international community fails to reach a consensus regarding the diplomatic solutions that left 400.00 dead and caused a massive exodus, according to the ONU.

The siege on eastern Aleppo, the second largest in Syria and its economic capital, was the main operation of government forces, aided by Russian aviation.

Moreover, the aviation supported by the Russian government forces from Russian military base scored a decisive victory over the rebel area situated in the east region of Aleppo since 2012.

Military offensive on eastern Aleppo marked how the indirect talks were held under UN auspices in Geneva between the Syrian government delegation and groups in opposition: after two years of suspension, the dialogue began withdrawing negotiators opposition as a sign of protest against the Syrian army operations in north of Aleppo.

Extreme violence in the Aleppo resulted in a cease-fire negotiated by Russia and the United States, but it was implemented only a few weeks.

Syrian and Russian aviation continued to bomb rebel-held neighborhoods and progress of government troops and militia loyal to President Bashar al-Assad has been relentlessly for the rebels.

The siege, however, produced a humanitarian crisis of enormous proportions, with over 250.000 civilians trapped in besieged neighborhoods.

After the rebels agreed to withdraw from Aleppo, government troops took control of the entire city.

But the end of the siege on Aleppo means the end of war in Syria.

The rebels still control territories in the north and on the outskirts of Damascus and even if the battle for Aleppo has been in the forefront, intense fighting were given in several Syrian regions, especially in the northern Kurdish region Hasakah.
