President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, said it is time for America to focus on other things after the White House announced the imposition of new sanctions against Russia.

He also said he took note of the two US security agencies regarding the involvement of Russian intelligence services in the US presidential campaign.

Trump said he would meet next week with the heads of intelligence to be presented the ‘facts’. The White House announced on Thursday the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats accused of espionage, sanctions against two agencies of Russia’s security, prosecution measures against cyber pirates and closing the Russian operational bases in New York and Maryland.

The foreign ministry in Moscow declared the sanctions are ‘counterproductive’ and said they would harm the bilateral relations between the countries.

The United States acted against Russia’s cyber piracy during the US presidential election campaign, as President Barack Obama said on NPR radio, on December 16, according to AFP.

‘It is clear that if a foreign government, no matter what government, tries to vitiate the integrity of our elections, then we must act’, said Barack Obama. ‘We’ll do it when and where we will decide’, added the leader of the White House.

‘Some reprisals will be explicit and public, others may not’, also stated President Barack Obama who will be followed at the White House by Republican Donald Trump on 20 January.

The measures announced by US media include new economic sanctions and censoring Russian diplomats. In addition, Russia could also be targeted by cyber operations, even if Washington does not want to start an informatic war with Moscow.
