“Of course, we cannot leave such actions unanswered, reciprocity is the law of diplomacy and international relations,” Lavrov said, quoted by news agency TASS.

Therefore, the Foreign Ministry of Russia has submitted a proposal to President Vladimir Putin to declare persona non grata 31 diplomats from the US Embassy in Moscow and four diplomats from the Consulate General of the USA in St. Petersburg, said Lavrov.

In addition, the US diplomats will no longer be able to use two locations in Moscow –the  Serebrianîi villa from Bor and the warehouse from Dorojnaia.

US allegations regarding interference of Russia in the American electoral process are unfounded, said Sergei Lavrov, who warned that Moscow will not leave Washington without retaliation penalties and respond according to the principle of reciprocity, according to TASS.

The measures announced by Barack Obama include the expulsion of 35 Russian intelligence agents and the closure of two centers used by these services in New York and Maryland, near Washington. According to Reuters, the US authorities gave them a deadline of 72 hours to leave the United States.

The intelligence services of the Russian GRU (intelligence service of the army) and FSB (Federal Security Service, former KGB), are also subject to economic sanctions, as four leaders of the GRU – its director, Igor Korobov, and three his deputies, Vladimir Alekseev, Igor and Sergei Kostiukov Ghizunov.

Sanctions targeting three Russian companies, including Esage Lab, which – according to Obama – have provided material support for cyber operations GRU.

Sanctions will not stop here, said the US president in office, warning that the US will take further measures “at a time of their choice”, including secret operations of which the public will not be informed.
