Christians who dedicate their lives to save others are “following the path and the teachings of Jesus”

These persons might become saints one day, says Papa Francis in an open letter.

Beatification is the first step in the process of obtaining sanctification, something that can only be achieved by three categories of people: martyrs, those who during their lives performed several heroic values and those who possess a “pure reputation”.

The new category of people who can apply for beatification includes Christians who have treated patients with plague and, shortly after, they died because they contracted the same disease, suggests a news published in Vatican’s official paper Osservatore Romano.

Such Christians “deserve the admiration of the community of believers offered to those who voluntarily accepted to be martyrs and who proved heroic Christian actions”, includes the letter.

The future beatified person will have to prove he or she spent its life respecting the Christian virtues and enjoys the reputation of a saint.

Especially, beatification will require a miracle, thanks to the prayers that were addressed to him after his death.

Beatification refers to remarkable people whom the Church wants to offer as an example to Christians and they will be declared “blessed” only after a thorough investigation it’s been made.

The Catholic Press Agency I-Media believes that the new definition could apply to a young Italian woman whose beatification process is underway in Rome.

Chiara Corbella died on June 13, 2012, after she refused an anticancer treatment that would jeopardize her baby’s life.

The woman a month after her son was born.
