The life of Russia’s former First Lady, Ludmila Putin is engulfed in mystery

Most journalists who have tried to search for information related to the president’s personal life ended up obtaining only poor information and, most times, they were forced to give up, wrote Newsweek in 2014.

However, Vladimir Putin’s most preserved family secret must be his former wife Ludmila, whom he welcomed two daughters.

The Russian state leader and Ludmila announced their divorce in 2013 and, last year, the press was already talking about a supposed new marriage between Ludmila and Arthur Ocheretny, the director of a nonprofit organization 20 years younger than Putin’s former wife.

Business Insider has put together a biographical list regarding Ludmila’s early life

Before reaching the altar with Vladimir Putin in 1983, the former First Lady worked as a flight attendant for the Russian airline Aeroflot. She is fluent in German, French and Spanish.

Putin and Ludmila met in the early 1980’s in the president’s hometown St. Petersburg through a common friend.

Together, the former couple welcomed two daughters, Maria, born in 1984, and Katerina, born a year later.

Few things are known about the two sisters because Vladimir Putin has rigorously protected them from the eyes of the press.

After working in Dresden as a KGB officer in the 1980’s, Putin and his former wife were returning in St. Petersburg, where the Kremlin leader was preparing for his fierce ascension into politics: the first step, a job in the government.

According to Reuters, although his wife had bigger plans for him, Vladimir Putin insisted on keeping her away from the spotlight.

In 2013, Slava Zaitsev, a Russian designer who worked with Ludmila in various occasions, told Reuters: “The fact of being a wife of the president has suddenly fallen over her”, revealed the Russian stylist.

After their divorce in 2013, Ludmila disappeared completely from the public eye.

At one point, the Russian press speculated that Putin’s ex-wife became a nun.
