One of Venezuela’s candidates for the assembly to rewrite constitution was killed a few hours before the polls had open

Jose Felix Pineda was a 39-year-old lawyer and, according to BBC News, the politician was shot dead in his home.

A group of Caracas officials revealed Pineda was assassinated by a group of people who fired several times at him.

“A group had abusively entered into his home and fired at him”, revealed the politicians.

Today, 31st July, the Venezuelan people will elect the delegates meant to rewrite the country’s new constitution in one of the most controversial elections in the world.

The country from South America was recently struck by a severe economic crisis and a widespread strategy to challenge the socialist power.

More than 110 people have lost their lives during the massive protests and fights with the government’s defense forces.

Nicolas Maduro is determined to not bow in front of his country that has been struggling for more than four months with the catastrophic collapse of the economic system.

As the number of deaths continues to rise on the streets of Caracas, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro threatens to unleash a ruthless army of supporters if the protestants attempt to overthrow the government, writes The Guardian.

“If Venezuela is thrown into chaos and violence, and the Bolivian Revolution will be destroyed, we will fight. We will release our homeland with weapons”, stated Maduro during a live broadcast.
