Six Arab countries that suspended their diplomatic ties with Qatar because they accused the state of helping certain jihadist groups, have urged FIFA to switch the location of the 2022 World Cup, who was supposed to unfold in Doha.

Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Mauritania, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt invoked Article 85 of the FIFA Code, which includes such measures only for exceptional circumstances.

Reuters mentions that a group of Qatar officials received information regarding some Saudi’s organization attempt to influence FIFA’s, although President Gianni Infantino said that he never received a letter or document related to the rumor.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt suspended on 5th June their diplomatic, political and commercial ties with Qatar, accusing the Gulf state of supporting international terrorism and approaching Iran.

The small country rich in oil and gas is dependent on these imports in order to cover the basic needs of its population of 2.7 million people.
