Zhou Qunfei is the wealthiest woman in the world, according to a new report published by Time magazine, after her predecessor’s wealth went from billions to zero because she was found guilty for multiple fraud cases.

The 47-year-old is the founder of Lens Technology, the company that produces glass screens for Apple’s most popular product – iPhone.

Zhou became a multi-billionaire in 2015 when her company was listed on the stock market.

According to Time magazine, the entrepreneur gathered a total fortune of $9.2 billion, while her company is estimated to nearly $11 billion.

“She is probably the most successful woman in the world”, said Rupert Hoogewerf, the editor of Hurun.

“She is a person that no one in the world knew about until last year: it’s a phenomenal story”, added Hoogewerf in 2015, just after Lens Technology was listed.

Zhou is the most successful woman and she is also someone who created this impressive empire by herself.

This is the result of the commitment of the Chinese Communist Party for Gender Equality, which “allowed women to flourish after capitalism began to apply”, Huang Yasheng, a professor at MIT and China Entrepreneurial Class, told the New York Times.

Zhou grew up on a farm and abandoned her studies at the age of 16 when she started working at a watch lens factory.

With just a few thousand dollars, in 1993 Zhou founded her own company that produced eyewear.

Within a decade her small business grew slowly but steadily.

Then, in 2003, Zhou began collaborating with Motorola, seeking to develop a scratch-proof glass lens for their new Razr V3 phone.
