The residents of Séméac, a small town in the Hautes-Pyrénées district, southern France, built an 18-meter long and 1.8-meter-tall wall on Sunday night to prevent immigrants from accessing a derelict hotel turned into a reception center, writes the French press.

The center will operate in a former “Formule 1” hotel, located in a suburban neighborhood.

The hotel belonged to the AccorHotels group but it was acquired by the central authorities and turned into an immigration center.

The objective of this lightning-fast operation of those who call themselves “the Séméac colleague” is to express their dissatisfaction regarding the inauguration of this reception center, which is set to host 85 immigrants in August.

Locals are dissatisfied by the fact the center is situated in a residential area, but also by the fact that the central authorities refused to consult with members of the local communities when they adopted this decision.

Those who built the wall mentioned they do not oppose to the idea of receiving immigrants.

However, they are disturbed that the value of their real estate properties could drop as immigrants arrive.

The local administration is, in turn, concerned about the way they will integrate immigrants and their children.

The two nurseries and the two primary schools in town are not adapted to accommodate a larger number of children.
