Prosecutors are struggling to determine if a 16-year-old German girl who disappeared last year after converting to Islam is one of those 20 jihadists captured by the Iraqi forces in an underground tunnel situated in the undergrounds of Old Town of Mosul, reported DPA.

The teenager from Pulsnitz, a small town near Dresden, was linked to several members of the jihadist group through an online conversation and shortly after she has decided to convert to Islam.

Before Linda’s disappearance, the German authorities were investigating an alleged terrorist plan that had as main target the government, but at one point they were urged to suspend the operation.

Prosecutor Lorenz Haase said there are “new pieces of evidence … that need to be evaluated” and the investigation could be reopened if the teenager comes to light and her identification process is made correctly.

A total of 20 foreign fighters were found last week in an underground tunnel situated in the Old Town of Mosul, a few days after the city was finally “cleaned” from terrorists.

Among those 20 members, there are five German citizens, three Russians, three Turkish and two Canadian citizens.

Returning to the 16-year-old, the only “lead” prosecutors have until now is a name: “Linda Wenzel”.

According to The Guardian, Linda Wenzel comes from a divided family and her teachers from the Ernst-Rietschel school describe her as a great student with powerful skills in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.

About half a year ago, before she went missing, Linda Wenzel’s colleagues noticed a change in her behavior and the most eloquent example was her unexpected transition from hip hop passion to Arabic music.

In the spring of 2016, Linda confessed to her parents her growing interest towards Islam, but she hid the fact that she was converting.

On Ramadan, the young woman told her family she was on the diet. “We did not even think about it for a second, and even bought a copy of the Qur’an” revealed Linda Wenzel’s mother, Katharina for the German press.

At home in Saxony, the investigators found a praying rug and a tablet in which they discovered the login details for a Facebook account that Linda used to keep in touch with various users from the Arab states.
