2017 might be the hottest year in history

June was the warmest month ever reported on Earth and meteorologist’s estimate that 2017 might become the year with the highest temperatures ever

However, the same figures also point out another alarming fact: the average temperature of our planet is the highest of the last 115.000 years.

According to data provided by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, June 2017 was the third hottest month in history being, exceeded by the critical temperatures from June 2015 and June 2016.

The data shows the average temperature of the planet is now higher by 0.82 degrees Celsius compared to the average temperatures recorded in the 20th century.

NASA published some similar data with the only mention they also have included in their top the values recorded in June 1998.

Experts warn that these unusually high temperatures and the extreme phenomena are more likely the results of the carbon emissions generated by the process of burning fossil fuels.

“The earth is warming up at a slower pace than we expected and showcased by the climate patterns,” says Andy Pitman, a researcher at New South Wales University in Sydney, Australia.

Current trends show that the goal of keeping the planet below the 1.5 degrees Celsius limit will be overcome by 2040, but there are studies showing that this could happen much earlier.

“In my opinion, in order to limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius, there is a need for a quick and drastic reduction in carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. Much faster than it is now”, the scientist said.
