Lisbon is the city chosen to host the upcoming edition of the Eurovision, which will be held on May 12, 2018, announced EFE.

The two planned semifinals, which will determine the countries to take part in the final, will take place on May 8 and 10, informs Gonçalo Reis, chairman of the Lusitan RTP Public Administration Board on Tuesday.

The contest will be held at Meo Arena, a covered room located in Parque de Las Naciones in the capital, with a capacity of 20.000 guests, where events such as Expo’98, Web Summit, and numerous music festivals were held.

The mayor of the capital, Fernando Medina, expressed his optimism regarding Lisbon’s chances to host about 27.000 visitors and that the tourism sector will probably earn 25 million euros thanks to this festival.

The cities of Braga, Gondomar, Guimaraes, Oporto and Santa Maria da Feira, all located in the northern part of the country, were the other suggestions to become the hosts of the European music competition.

The Eurovision LXIII edition will be held for the first time in Portugal after Salvador Sobral won his country’s first victory on May 13 this year.

The Sobral ‘Amar pelos dois’ track reached the historic 758 points for Portugal, the country that first participated in Eurovision in 1964.
