Beijing remains opposed to any strike on its claim to sovereignty over the island

Donald Trump suggested Sunday that the U.S. may not represent the link in the future by the comprehension that Taiwan is part of ‘one China’ — throwing doubt upon a theory that’s been a vital part of the Sino-U.S. relationship for decades, and threatening to send that collaboration into a tailspin.

While Beijing has yet to issue an official reaction, an editorial in the Chinese version of the state-connected Global Times on Monday rebuked Trump, saying, ‘the One China policy is unable to be traded. China cannot be intimidated and must wage resolute struggle’ against the President-elect, it included.

An article in the English version of the Global Times, additionally released on Monday, mentioned a professor who called the President-elect ‘inexperienced insensitive and with complex problems’ and with ‘very superficial’ knowledge about the Sino-U.S. relationship.

‘The Taiwan question is not negotiable’, stated professor Li Haidong.

Trump said China was not collaborating with the U.S. on its valuation of its national currency, on denuclearizing North Korea and on concluding territorial claims in the South China Sea.

He also said China must not be ‘ordering’ whom he could speak to on the phone.

‘I fully understand the ‘one China’ policy, but I don’t know why we have to be bound by a ‘one China’ policy unless we make a deal with China having to do with other things, including trade’, stated Trump for Fox News.
