Good news for blue cheese lovers! According to a new study, blue cheese can improve your heart health, helping you to live longer.

Spermidine, a compound that is found in blue cheese, but also in soybeans, chicken liver, peas, corn and shellfish, appears to reduce blood pressure and prevent heart disease.

However, you have to eat blue cheese with moderation. Experts warn us not to consume more than 30 grams of blue cheese per day, as the saturated fats it contains could do more harm than good.

The study conducted on lab animals, published in Nature Journal, showed that mice that were fed with blue cheese lived longer, thanks to the improved functioning of the heart.

In the research conducted on men, spermidine in blue cheese was associated with a decrease of blood pressure and reduced the incidence of heart diseases.

‘The results outline a new strategy for cardiovascular protection, but further studies are needed to validate these beneficial effects’, the authors of the research said.

Nutritionist Charlotte Stirling-Reed told Huffington Post: ‘Cheese is a food that must exist in a healthy diet, given the content of calcium, zinc and other essential minerals’.

In order not to exceed the quantity eaten, the doctor recommended to chose a mature cheese, with a more intensifying taste, that will make us feel full more rapidly.

So, blue cheese is highly recommended in order to keep your heart healthy, but you must be careful with the amount eaten, especially if you want to lose weight.
