The Salvadoran Government informed that in the last 24 hours an unusual decrease in the seismic activity was recorded, compared with the days that followed the earthquake which measured 7.2 degrees on the Richter that rocked Central-American region on 24 November, reports EFE.

Since last Thursday, 19 daily aftershocks with magnitudes between 4 and 5 degrees have been reported. Meanwhile, this weekend, seismographs have recorded only six earthquakes and none of which has been felt by the population.

Altogether, there have been recorded 62 aftershocks that rocked the country on Thursday, after 12.43 local time (18.43 GMT). The earthquake of 7.2 magnitudes occurred with the epicenter in front of the Usulutan coast, on its south-eastern side, according to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN).

The earthquake was also felt in Costa Rica, Honduras and Nicaragua.

The earthquake came an hour after Otto hurricane hit eastern shores of Costa Rica and Nicaragua, accompanied by wind gusts up to 175 km/h.

Otto hurricane will bring rain accompanied by lightning which will most likely cause floods and mudslides, NHC warned.

The hurricane killed four people in Panama  on Tuesday and three others went missing.

The two Central American countries issued the evacuation of the population along the Caribbean coast. The schools were closed and the authorities have mobilized rescue teams to deal with the emergencies.

In Costa Rica, the president Luis Guillermo Solis announced the initiation of the emergency state, on his Twitter account. Nicaragua specialists issued a tsunami alert, that was later canceled.

MARN stressed that they will definitely continue to monitor the seismic activity, in order to inform the population about the evolution of the phenomenon.
