Martin Scorsese’s ‘Silence’ will premiere at Vatican in front of 400 priests

The last film produced and directed by film legend Martin Scorsese entitled ‘Silence’ will premiere Tuesday in Vatican, where the filmmaker will be greeted by a group of 400 priests who will attend the screening of the movie.


Pope Francis is not expected at the screening, but the filmmaker has invited 400 priests who will watch his ‘masterpiece’, that lasts 159 minutes, reports The Guardian. Further information suggests that Martin Scorsese and Pope Francis will have


The trailer of ‘Silence’ is focused on the Jesuit missionaries from Japan during the seventeenth century and it was released a week before the premiere from Vatican.


An adaptation of Shusako Endo’s novel, ‘Silence’ tells the story of a group of Portuguese Jesuit monks from the eighteenth century, who are persecuted and tortured during the mission of evangelization in remote areas of Japan.


The main characters are portrayed by Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver.


Garfield and Driver are preparing for a dangerous journey of finding their mentor, played by Liam Neeson. Once in Japan, they will go through numerous obstacles and horrific experiences. The movie shows how the Japanese community was torturing the Christians, including the torturing method or the ‘mizuharitsuke’ method.


Before he discovered his passion for cinematography, Martin Scorsese wanted to become a Catholic priest. The religious impulse was also rendered in many of his movies, including: ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ ,‘Kundun’, ‘Mean Streets’ or ‘Gangs of New York’.
