We are all familiar to this famous quote: ‘Taste the rainbow’.

This sentence is part of all Skittles commercials and lately, Skittles fans are have been wondering why has the rainbow turned yellow.

Why does a Skittles box contains more yellow candies than red, orange, green or violet ones? Here is the explanation of the mystery, according to delish.com.

A series of images testify that the color distribution of packets is not necessarily equal, as lemon flavored candies dominate each package.

This theory was recently confirmed by consumers obsessed with Skittles, by analyzing the rainbow-colored boxes.

The reason behind this inequality?

A video filmed inside Wrigley factory in Yorkville, Illinois, shows that the sweets are sorted by color in individual vats. However, during the production process, yellow candies often slide inside other colors, too.

Dissatisfied with this technical explanation, Reddit users have given other explanations.

‘More yellow brings more brightness to the mixture and makes you want to eat more candy’, said one user, while another suggested that the imbalance may help cutting costs:

‘Yellow is predominant and orange is created by mixing yellow with red, instead of buying orange paint’.

Wrigley representatives have not yet commented on this matter, but whatever the reason, all candy fans have clearly expressed their strongest desire:

They want the rainbow back!

The bright colors of Skittles candies are made from synthetic chemical dyes, which are based on nitrogen.

Skittles is a nutritionally unbalanced product and should not be abused because its excess of carbohydrates with a high glycemic index.
