An armed attack conducted in France at a nursing home for clerics killed one of the employees.

A massive raid was initiated on the night of Thursday to Friday in the south of France to find the suspect, who allegedly killed the employee.

Shortly before 02:00 GMT, a helicopter was overflying the area, in the operation of tracking a gunman who barged into ‘Les Chenes Verts’ with a hoodie on his head. The nursing home is ruled by a group of monks and nuns and belongs to the Society of African missions (SMA), located in Montferrier-sur-Lez, near Montpellier.

‘At this stage of the investigation, no evidence suggested the reason of the crime’, told Montpellier prosecutor  Christophe Barret.

The hypothesis of a terrorist attack is not taken into consideration for the moment, said a source close to the investigation. For nearly two years, France faced with an unprecedented wave of jihadist attacks. These attacks resulted in 238 deaths, including a priest murdered during a religious service at Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray, near Rouen.

According to the first elements, shortly before 9:00 p.m. GMT Thursday ‘a single individual with a hoodie on his head and armed with a knife and a gun stormed into the asylum’, declared the sources involved in the investigation.

‘Around 10 p.m. (9:00 p.m. GMT), a woman who works at the nursing home called the police, saying she was attacked by a man’, stated prosecutor Barret.

This woman – an employee who had been tied by the criminal – was able to free herself and to activate the alarm. She was found by gendarmes ‘unharmed, but in shock’ added the magistrate.
