Bad news for humanity: researchers believe that it’s 13% – 50% chances that our race is likely to be extinct by 2100.

A mathematician at the University of Barcelona has estimated that there are 13% chances that mankind fails to arrive at the end of the 21st century, due to a catastrophic event.

Dr. Fergus Simpson, a mathematician at the University of Barcelona’s Institute for Cosmic Sciences, said that there were 0.2% chances that a ‘global catastrophe’ occurs, during any year until the end of the 21st century.

The Apocalypse calculation is based on the argument which can predict the future number of members of the human species, based on estimating the total number of humans born so far.

‘Our key conclusion is that the annual risk of global catastrophes now exceeded 0.2%’, said Dr. Simpson in an academic paper called ‘Apocalypse now? Reconsidering argument Apocalypse’.

According to Dr. Simpson’s calculations, around 100 billion people were already born and a similar number will be born in the future, before the disappearance of the human race.

However, he estimated that there are 13% chances that mankind will not arrive until the end of the 21st century.

This is a friendly and more optimistic conclusion than the previous studies have reached. For example, those of the British astronomer Sir Martin Rees, suggested that there is a probability of 50% that extinction of mankind will occur before 2100, as he describes in his book, published in 2003, entitled ‘Our final Hour’.
