The neurologist who plans to accomplish the first human head transplant claims the medical innovation might take place in 2017 in the UK.

Maverick and the professor who was often criticized, Sergio Canavero, announced during the launching event of a virtual reality project that he hopes to use this program for the patient who will have to get used to his new body.

The detachment of patient Valery Spiridinov’s head from his initial body should take place next year. The process includes the cryo-preservation of the detached head. After this part, the next step consists in attaching Valery’s head to the body of the donor.

According to the Italian doctor, the most promising location to carry the surgery is UK, because, according to him, here he is benefiting from the support of a large scientific community.

The launching of the new virtual reality system was held in Glasgow. Meanwhile, some experts believe the experience might have some ‘unexpected psychological reactions’ or it could become ‘worse than death’.

‘The virtual reality system prepares the patient in the best possible way for the new world that he will enter:a world where he might walk again’, affirmed the neurosurgeon.

The system created by the American company Inventum Bioengineering Technology in the United States, allows patients to participate in the virtual reality sessions for several months before surgery.

The Inventum CEO Alexander Pavlovcik said: ‘While preparing the patient for the transition into a new body, virtual reality will prevent the unexpected psychological reactions’.
