First of all, this is not a joke. The American space agency is willing to offer $30,000 to any person over 18 who can come up with an idea regarding a potential toilet in space.

Due to the fact NASA scientists were not able to found a solution for this issue of major importance, the Agency has launched a contest on the HeroX website where they are expecting for suggestions until December 20th.

In the contest addressed to any person over 18 who can find a solution meant to allow the astronauts dressed in space suits to do one’s needs and to get rid of diapers.

According to NASA, the new system must keep the manure. Another important aspect is to create system meant to avoid the feces from touching the body of astronauts, whether they are moving or they are sitting.

The toilet space must provide a insulation for six days straight, while they are dressed in the space coveralls.

In addition, the system must be easy to operate. The system must a ‘hands-free’, to be equipped with a lightning system and the astronauts should not remove or change the oxygen supply of the overall.

Currently, astronauts are constrained to use diapers during a take-off, landing and spacewalks.

Apparently, this is only a temporary solution, because if you wear them for several hours diapers can generate infections or even sepsis.

On the ISS, there is a toiled based on aspiration but it is not adapted to the constraints of a spacesuit.
