The White House omitted the name of Gauthier Destenay, the First Gentleman of Luxembourg, from the caption of an official photograph that featured the partners of the state leaders from the NATO summit.
Destenay, a Belgian architect, married Prime Minister Xavier Bettel in 2015, becoming the First Gentleman of Luxembourg.
The First Lady of the US, Melania Trump, was tagged twice in the original description of Andrea Hanks’s official photograph and published on Facebook, with other pictures taken during Trump’s international nine-day tour.
Destenay’s name was later included into the caption
The original description was: “First Lady Melania Trump with Queen Mathilde of Belgium and other partners of NATO leaders: First Lady of Turkey, Emine Erdogan, Iceland, Thora Margret Baldvinsdottir; First Lady of France Brigitte Trogneux; First Lady Melania Trump; Slovenia’s Mojca Stropnik; Bulgaria’s Desislava Radeva; Belgium’s Amélie Derbaudrenghien and Norway Ingrid Schulerud during her Thursday, May 25, 2017 visit to the Royal Palace in Brussels”.
Destenay wore a dark suit, accessorized with a white shirt while he was staying behind Melania Trump.
Before changing the description, the White House did not respond to the comments.
Unlike Barack Obama’s strategy, the legalization of same-sex marriages was not questioned during Trump’s presidency.
