At least 22 people had died and 59 were severely injured during the terrorist attack from Monday night at Ariana Grande’s concert from Manchester Arena, Europe’s largest indoor concert hall.
The attack labeled as terrorist, most likely conducted by a kamikaze was detonated in the building’s foyer.
According to most tabloids from the kingdom, this is Britain’s bloodiest attack after July 7, 2005, when 52 people lost their lives near London’s most crowded transportation system.
Meanwhile, the local press from Manchester reported the attack was conducted by a man who is also injured and mixed up with other victims.
“This was the most terrible incident that Manchester had to face. Several families and young people went to enjoy a concert at the Manchester Arena but instead they lost their lives.
We are dealing with an investigation whose data is changing quickly and we have allocated significant resources to both investigations and street patrols. More than 400 officers are involved in this operation, especially during the night”, stated Constable Hopkins, chief of the Manchester Police.
According to Hopkins, the investigators believe the attacker carried an improvised device that he detonated shortly after he entered the arena.
“I can confirm that the attacker died in the Arena. We believe he carried an improvised explosive device that provoked the atrocity”, stated the chief officer.
The traffic in Manchester is still blocked and the Victoria subway station, situated near the arena will remain closed the entire day, authorities said.
