The author of the Manchester Arena attack, Salman Abedi, was under police scrutiny way before the placed the bomb at Ariana Grande’s concert.
British anti-terrorism agencies were questioned by the intelligence services after Salman Abedi told his friends that “it’s okay to be a suicide attacker”, alarming them to call an anti-terror emergency line set up by the Government.
According to the British press, these anti-terrorism services missed five perfect occasions to put Salman Abedi behind bars before the atrocity in Manchester.
Moreover, according to classified sources, the British police was informed about Abedi’s strange behavior at least five times in five years.
After he realized no one can stop him, he decided to take action on Monday at Ariana Grande’s concert.
Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the Ramadhan Foundation, stated that ‘community members expressed concern about how this young man behaved and reported the entire story further’.
At the same time, two friends of Abedi were also worried and called, separately, an anti-tero line, five years ago, and again last year.
“They were worried that he would have supported terrorism and said ‘it’s all right to be a suicide attacker"” a source told the BBC.
Authorities were also aware that Abedi’s father had links to a well-known Islamic group in Libya, banned in the UK.
Abedi also had links to a series of jihadists from the United Kingdom who were in touch with the Islamic State.
His father was detained by the Libyan militia in Tripoli on Wednesday and two brothers of the assassin were detained separately.
