The 45-year-old was found guilty by a Swiss court after defaming an activist and ‘liking’ a series of insulting posts from Facebook related to the same person, the case becoming a world premiere, reports The Guardian.
According to the British paper, accused animal rights activist Erwin Kessler of racism and liked numerous insulting Facebook posts that involved Kessler’s name, according to a press release published by a courtroom in Zurich.
The comments were published on the social platform in 2015 in the context of a heated discussion on a Facebook group meant to defend animal rights.
During a controversial debate about animal rights, the members were dealing with the situation of allowing animals to take part in public events or not, wrote Swiss daily Tages Anzeiger.
According to the court, the fact that the sentenced person is not the one who published the comments because the only thing that really matters is the fact that he pressed the ‘Like’ button.
Now, the ‘guilty’ is also the first individual to be sanctioned for ‘liking’ other people’s comments.
The man must now pay up a 3.700 Euros fine although the decision is not final.
Kessler was sentenced nearly 20 years ago for comparing the Jewish ritual of rituals with Nazi practices.
