The 27 states that form the European Union (without the United Kingdom) have adopted on Monday the negotiating procedure that Chief Negotiator for Brexit, Michel Barnier, will use in order to initiate the talks with UK.
The mandate established by all state members is absolutely ‘firm and clear’, wrote Deputy Chief Negotiator Sabine Weyand on Twitter.
Designated as Chief Negotiator for Brexit a month after the referendum by which the British people decided to leave the European Union, Michel Barnier already mobilized his team and he is set to visit 27 countries in order to meet with the leaders and learn their secrets.
The guidelines for the negotiation process and the position of the European bloc in front of the British Government were already endorsed by European leaders at the extraordinary summit held on 29th April in Brussels.
Europeans want a “step-by-step” negotiation and the first stage is to resolve Britain’s rupture from the Union and only then to agree on the framework regarding the future relationship between the bloc and the kingdom.
