New sanctions imposed on North Korea are “cruel, immoral and inhuman actions” will only lead to the acceleration of Kim Jong-un’s nuclear program, the North Korean Foreign Ministry warned on Monday.

The new sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council are an” act of hostility towards the physical elimination of the North Korean people”, the ministry denounces in a press release published by AFP.

This eighth series of measures, adopted on September 11, consists in imposing a new series of sanctions on Pyongyang for defying the warnings and conducting a new nuclear test.

The new sanctions included the banning of textile exports and the reduction of oil supplies, measure that could cost North Korea around $2 billion.

“Multiplying US’ initiatives and their allies in terms of imposing sanctions and exerting pressure on the DPRK will only accelerate our rhythm towards the full realization of our nuclear force”, suggested the communiqué.

On Monday, during a phone conversation, US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, agreed to maximize pressures upon North Korea through a rigorous implementation of UN resolutions.

According to the White House, the two officials discussed “about North Korea’s contempt for the international community and its efforts to destabilize Northeast Asia”, added the US presidency.

Donald Trump is in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, where he will address his first speech on Tuesday as the US president, while Xi Jinping will not participate this year at the event.

Foreign Ministers of UN Security Council member countries will meet on Thursday to discuss the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the nuclear threat posed by North Korea.
