The Russians launch Taiga – the smartphone which blocks apps from collecting data

The Russian giant has launched a smartphone, especially designed to block apps from collecting data

The software company managed by co-founder Natalya Kaspersky claims the new device prevents Google and other browsers from collecting data related to the user’s privacy, writes Bloomberg.

Taiga was designed by the Moscow-based group InfoWatch and named after the deserted forests of Siberia.

 

 

The innovative smartphone operated its own firmware based on a modified version of Android that allows applications to function properly, but blocking them from collecting data.

Taiga comes with a built-in agent that offers the administrator – such as a company’s IT department – control over the applications the device can run and the content the user can access.

 

 

“Most applications collect certain user data and send them to external servers”, said Natalya Kaspersky.

“When people use personal phones for work, emails, documents and photos that are related to the company, their safety and privacy are jeopardized”, added an InfoWatch official.

However, Taiga is not dedicated to the general public

According to Bloomberg, the first 50.000 units have already been delivered to Russian employees, from companies co-owned by the government.

Natalya Kaspersky is the co-founder of Kaspersky Lab, alongside her ex-husband Eugene Kaspersky.

Two weeks ago, the United States banned the use of the security software designed by the Russian company Kaspersky.
