Daddy Yankee, who appears in the international music hit “Despacito” called for helping the Puerto Rico population – a region heavily affected by the extreme weather phenomena

Daddy Yankee is originally from Puerto Rico and he was invited to a CNN show to talk about the critical situation after the region became the target of Hurricane Maria, who struck Puerto Rico with a hardly imagined intensity.

“A lot of people do not know that I’m from Puerto Rico. My family is there, my wife, my daughter, and I still live there … and we really need your help”, stated Daddy Yankee.

The Latin artist explained that recent storms have been catastrophic and urged everyone, including the United States government, to help those who live on the streets now.

“Many people do not know that the Puerto Rican are American citizens … and we need federal money for citizens and the help of the government”, added Daddy Yankee.

The musician then highlighted the magnitude of the disaster by asking his fans to make a comparison between the scenes from “Despacito” video and how the place looks now.

The video gathered more than 3.8 billion views on Youtube and it was filmed in the San Juan neighborhood, starring Luis Fonsi.

“Seeing the pictures in the clip and comparing them with what I have seen after the hurricane is devastating. I know a lot of people who are struggling now. There is no communication, there is no electricity on the island, and the hospitals are overcrowded. We need the government to be more active”, said the artist, whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez.
