The Dominican Republic was devastated by Hurricane Maria on Monday night, stated Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit for BBC News.

“We lost everything we could buy with money,” wrote the state leader on his official Facebook page.

Previously, Skerrit video documented the entire thing, including the moment when his roof was smashed by the hurricane.

At one point, when the situation turned into a real hell, he wrote: “The greatest fear is that we will wake up in the morning and find out about the seriously injured victims, possibly even deaths, as a result of landslides caused by the persistent rains.”

Hurricane Mary increased its intensity before reaching on the Caribbean coast.

The tropical storm is moving on the same trajectory as Irma, the same hurricane that devastated the region two weeks ago.

Currently, the winds reached the incredible speed of 250 km / h, and although it was a category 5 when it reached in the republic, it dropped to a 4 in the morning.

However, meteorologists are worried the hurricane might increase its power again as its heading towards Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

The Dominican Prime Minister says the damages are devastating and they will now focus on saving those caught between ruins and providing medical assistance to the wounded.

All ports and airports are closed, and coastal residents have been trained to go to authorized shelters.

Meanwhile, Martinique Island declared a state of maximum alert, while another French island, Guadeloupe, ordered the evacuation of the population.

The hurricane warnings are in force for Guadeloupe, St Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat, the US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
